Press Release - June 2024
A New Flight Path for The Hamilton Aviary!
Hamilton, Ontario June 27th, 2024 - After nearly 100 years of inspiring a love of birds in thousands of visitors, the Hamilton Aviary will be offering its final public Open House at 85 Oak Knoll Drive on Sunday June 30th.
Our beloved flock will soon be off on new adventures in their carefully selected placements and would love to have their biggest supporters wish them well.
We are excited to announce a change in our strategic direction, pivoting to a foster-home based organization! Once all of our current birds have been placed, we will be running community programming like educational sessions and hands-on workshops, and start onboarding new foster parents.
While we continue to fundraise for a new sanctuary, we will care for birds in need by finding suitable homes and provide education on health, enrichment, and training for new and seasoned Parronts!
If you have any connections to help us acquire some land or a building for our future, or are interested in fostering or volunteering, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at info@hamiltonaviary.ca
Please follow us on Instagram and Facebook @hamiltonaviary or check out our website https://www.hamiltonaviary.com/ for the latest information on our new direction and updates on how our birds are doing in their new homes.
We want to thank the public and all of the volunteers, past and present, for their support. Without your help, we could not have made the Hamilton Aviary into such a wonderful sanctuary for our birds. You can continue to help us by donating through CanadaHelps or via our website.
About The Hamilton Aviary:
The Hamilton Aviary has dedicated itself to caring for surrendered exotic birds for almost 100 years. Often through no fault of their own, many parrots find themselves rehomed several times over their lifespan, so The Hamilton Aviary strives to fulfill a need in our community to provide sanctuary to these birds. Up until 2024, that was in a physical building, but now we seek to do this work as a network of foster homes and plan on focusing more attention on community outreach and educational programming when looking to our future.

Providing parrots sanctuary since 1927
Ever since our inception we have dedicated ourselves to all things avian including creating a vibrant sanctuary for displaced exotic birds, advocating for avian conservation, and helping to build a community that cares for the well-being of both people and birds. We hope that through engagement and education we can cultivate a love of birds in every person who visits us and inspire others to help support the future preservation and security of all avian species.
