Hello my name
is Kermit!

Pyrrhura molinae

DSC01787.jpeg

I am a Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure who is just over 1 year old. I was surrendered into The Friends of the Aviary's foster program in July 2025 after my owner unexpectedly passed away. â€‹

It was a hard decision for my family, but they knew they didn't have the education and experience to care for me, especially during a difficult time for them.

I love being out of my cage and right in the action of my home. I'm a velcro bird so you will find me sitting on the shoulder's of my foster parront's!

About Me and Other Green Cheek Conures

Green Cheek Conures, like all other conures, live in Central and South America. The Green Cheeks are often found in the forests and woodlands of countries including Bolivia and Brazil. These birds stick to the treetops to feed on a variety of fruits, nuts, vegetation, and insects.

Want to hear a fun fact about me? I love dancing and running water! Turn on a tap, I'll come flying over, run the shower and I squawk the whole time. I have an extra water dish in my cage I like to bathe so much. While in care I've also been practicing my dancing. Fosters "captured" the behaviour with a clicker and now I dance on cue! Guess what, there are more than 40 types of conures! Although there so many species of conures, the ones often kept as pets are the Green Cheeks and their variations (Turquoise, Yellow-sided, Cinnamon, Pineapple) and Sun Conures.

Sometimes described as large parakeets or small parrots, conure is not a scientific term but a word used to group these birds of various sizes, colours, and genera. Did you know that a common distinguishing attribute of every conure is a white eye ring.

Currently conures are classified as Least Concern due to their wide range but their wild population has been decreasing. Sun Conures IUCN status was recently changed from Least Concern to Endangered.

What I'm up to Now

I'm in a Foster to Adopt Placement!

I am hopeful that I have found my forever home! I am currently on FOTA's foster to adopt track which is a popular route for people who haven't had a bird before, or are interested in a species they haven't owned. This allows them to get extra help and education from the volunteers at FOTA so they know if a bird is the right fit for them. My fosters have owned Budgies for many years and wanted to add a slightly bigger bird to their flock too! â€‹I'm looking forward to calling my new place home.
