Hello my name
is Riddle!
Previously I was named Veneer
Pyrrhura molinae
I am a presumed male Pineapple Conure who entered into The Friends of the Aviary's foster program in September of 2024. I was found in a on the side of the road by a kind lady and she and her family took me in.

I was found with another Pineapple Conure (named Velvet by our rescuers) who was presumed to be my mate. We were found in a tiny cage that was left in a dumpster with a nesting box, so it is assumed we were used to breed.

Unfortunately she had a pre-existing infected fracture and she passed away a few days after we were saved.

About Me and Other Pineapple Conures
Pineapple Conures, like all other conures, live in Central and South America. The Pineapples are often see in the lowland forests of countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. These birds stick to the treetops to feed on a variety of fruits, nuts, vegetation, and insects.
Guess what, there are more than 40 types of conures! Pineapples, like me, are a colour mutation of the more popular Green Cheek Conure and are named as such because we are the same colours as the prickly fruit. Although there so many species of conures, the ones often kept as pets are the Green Cheeks and their variations (Turquoise, Yellow-sided, Cinnamon, Pineapple) and Sun Conures.
Sometimes described as large parakeets or small parrots, conure is not a scientific term but a word used to group these birds of various sizes, colours, and genera. Did you know that a common distinguishing attribute of every conure is a white eye ring.

Currently conures are classified as Least Concern due to their wide range but their wild population has been decreasing. Sun Conures IUCN status was recently changed from Least Concern to Endangered.
What I'm up to Now
I am in the FOTA foster program
I am living with the family who rescued me! They contacted The Friends of the Aviary for some help, so I've been able to stay with them. I'm adjusting to my new life and enjoying time with my foster mom. She is going to be adopting me so I'm excited to have found my forever home!
