Hello my name
is Teddy!

Pyrrhura molinae

Teddy Close Up.jpg

I am a suspected male Green Cheek Conure who is about 2 years old.

My mom loved me and spent lots of time on diet conversion and training to give me the best possible life with people as possible. Unfortunately not everyone in the home had as big of a love of birds as she did.

I was surrendered into The Friends of the Aviary's foster program in November 2025 and have been doing very well in foster care. I would prefer a home with female caregivers, but if a man is willing to go slow and do the work necessary to grow a bond and help me trust that is an option too! I am a very sweet boy looking for someone to grow up with and let me snuggle in their hair.

What I Can Say

Hi Teddy, Thank you,
and Whatcha
Doing?

Friends

I have two bird brothers in my foster home. Check back for an update!

About Me and Other Green Cheek Conures

Green Cheek Conures, like all other conures, live in Central and South America. The Green Cheeks are often found in the forests and woodlands of countries including Bolivia and Brazil. These birds stick to the treetops to feed on a variety of fruits, nuts, vegetation, and insects.

Something you should know about me is I like to be on the floor. I love throwing my toys on the floor and flying after them. However, when I am on the floor I can get into trouble by trying to eat your feet. Because of this going on the floor has not been encouraged in my foster homes. This is something I used to do at my very first home and my last caregiver spent lots of time helping me work on stopping. I am often easily redirected by calling me to land on your arm or asking me to step up. I can also be nibbly if I am snuggling under your chin. Instead of moving your hand towards me for a step up, I positively respond to being asked to go on my training perch for a sunflower seed. Guess what, there are more than 40 types of conures! Although there so many species of conures, the ones often kept as pets are the Green Cheeks like me and their variations (Turquoise, Yellow-sided, Cinnamon, Pineapple) and Sun Conures.

Sometimes described as large parakeets or small parrots, conure is not a scientific term but a word used to group these birds of various sizes, colours, and genera. Did you know that a common distinguishing attribute of every conure is a white eye ring.

Currently conures are classified as Least Concern due to their wide range but their wild population has been decreasing. Sun Conures IUCN status was recently changed from Least Concern to Endangered.

What I'm up to Now

I'm in the Foster Program!

I am working hard practicing all my training to get ready for my new home. I am already target and recall trained and have a few tricks like spinning and waving! â€‹I'm looking for a dedicated mom (or dad!) who is willing to put in the work to make me a fantastic companion bird. I'm ready for this next chapter in my life and to find my forever home!
