I am a Blue Fronted Amazon who is 30 years old. I entered FOTA's program in May 2026. I was apart of the same family for those 30 years and as my people aged they could no longer provide the level of care I needed.
Did you know there are 33 different types of Amazon parrots alone? We all have green bodies, but normally have an extra colour or two that separates us from each other. Many of us are named by what colour we are other than green and where that colour is. For example I have an orangey patch on my wing, but I also have that same beautiful colour on my face with added blue on my face and wings!

About Me and Other
Blue Fronted Amazons
My ancestors lived in South America including Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and northern Argentina. These birds are often seen in savannahs and open woodlands where there are trees available for nesting and a water source. They are very social and flock in numbers from a few dozen to hundreds of individuals! In the wild, many Amazons only live into their 20s to 30s, whereas I, as a companion bird, could comfortably live 60-90 years with proper care.
Amazons are often seen as an appealing "pet" because, like the African Greys, they are very good at talking. The Blue-Fronted Amazons do tend to be less chatty than their Double Yellow Headed cousins. Some ​​amazons are even quite good at singing and opera seems to be the favourite genre of many individuals. However, just like all companion birds they take lots of care, time, and training to live happy lives in captivity.
Billie is a handsome boy who needs some extra patience and attention. He loves spending time out of his cage, likes target training, and will even accept some scritches but since he was cage bound for 30 years does need some practice interacting with people calmly. He came to us with an abscess on the end of his keel so he will be going into surgery so it can be removed and analyzed.
Blue-Fronted Amazons are a near threatened species. Yellow-Naped, Red-Crowned, and Yellow-Headed Amazons however are endangered and Orange-Winged and Mealy Amazons are of least concern. Blue Fronts have experienced declining numbers due to habitat loss, trapping for the pet trade, and the logging industry.

I am in FOTA's Foster Program!
I'm working on opening up for my foster mom. She's been working hard on improving my care. We are working on enriching out of cage time and then hopefully some handling too. I'm looking forward to learning more skills that will help me find my forever home!

I am pending adoption! I met a wonderful couple looking to add an Amazon to their flock. They have lots of experience since they already have four African Greys who came from a variety of backgrounds. FOTA is just waiting for my surgery before I will officially join my forever home!
