Cookie and Jackie!

We are both playful, hand tame Green Cheek Conures who are 12 and 11 years old.
You can tell us apart because Cookie has blue on her tummy and Jackie has a red tummy.
We had a good life, our mom raised us and loved us dearly. When she passed away we moved to live with her son who also took good care of us. We got to spend lots of time with our people out of our cages (we cannot share because Cookie will sometimes bully Jackie), but we were happy.
Unfortunately sometimes people have more going on beneath the surface. Our dad fell onto some hard times struggling with addiction and mental health issues. When he was able to he took great care of us, but unfortunately that became less often. FOTA found out about us from a friend looking for help. Our dad was losing his house and we had no where to go. On an emergency basis we were picked up and after confirming our dad could no longer provide the care we need were officially accepted as fosters.

Jackie likes cuddling and sticking closeby.
Cookie likes training and playing with necklaces.
Dislikes
Sometimes we get on each others nerves so are best housed separately but can be out together.

Grapes, Banana, Blueberries, peas, Sunflower seeds, and Walnuts!

Friends
We had a large four legged visitor once and Cookie did nibble his nose but came around over time.
About Us and Other Green Cheek Conures
Green Cheek Conures, like all other conures, live in Central and South America. The Green Cheeks are often found in the forests and woodlands of countries including Bolivia and Brazil. These birds stick to the treetops to feed on a variety of fruits, nuts, vegetation, and insects.

Despite our rocky recent history we are incredibly well socialized birds. If you've got a treat we are happy to step up (don't need a treat once we trust you more), enjoy target training, and are quick to warm up to strangers. We love sitting on your shoulders and may even compete a little bit for the best spot. We both like scritches and Jackie will snuggle right into your neck. Guess what, there are more than 40 types of conures! Although there so many species of conures, the ones often kept as pets are the Green Cheeks like us and their variations (Turquoise, Yellow-sided, Cinnamon, Pineapple) and Sun Conures.

Sometimes described as large parakeets or small parrots, conure is not a scientific term but a word used to group these birds of various sizes, colours, and genera. Did you know that a common distinguishing attribute of every conure is a white eye ring.

Currently conures are classified as Least Concern due to their wide range but their wild population has been decreasing. Sun Conures IUCN status was recently changed from Least Concern to Endangered.
What we are up to Now
We are in Foster Care!
We have flourished with our foster parents. We bring lots of love, laughter, and cheeky antics to their home and are looking for a forever perch to call our own. We are bonded so we will be looking for a home together!
