Hello my name is Lilly!
Diopsittaca nobilis nobilis

I am a Hahn's Macaw (also known as Red Shoulder Macaw) who is about 22 years old. I entered FOTA's program in November 2025 with Liko the Orange Winged Amazon after our mom found out she had cancer. She cared for both of us our whole lives, but with lots of appointments, surgeries, and recovering in her future knew she could not provide the care we needed.
FOTA decided we would go to a foster home together, but quickly realized him and I are not bonded. He is a little obsessed with me and I do not like him in my personal space!

About Me and Other
Hahn's Macaws
Hahn’s macaws are found in South American countries including Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, and the Guianas region. They live in swamplands, tropical lowlands, and savannahs. In the wild, these birds eat a variety of sugary fruits and fatty nuts, but in captivity without the opportunity to fly great distances vegetables and high quality pellets are needed to keep them healthy.

When it comes to the age of companion birds, the general rule of thumb is the bigger the bird, the longer they could live. Green-Winged and other large macaws are the biggest companion birds and can live with proper care 80+ years. Mini Macaws like Lilly could still live as old as 50. The oldest recorded macaw, a Blue & Gold named Charlie the Curser was 114/115 when she died. It was believed that she was owned by Sir Winston Churchill, the UK Prime Minister during WWII, but others say he actually owned an African Grey!

Hahn's Macaws are unique for their species. Often referred to as "Mini Macaws" there are a few other Macaws that share all the personality and sass of their larger cousins but come in a smaller package! Severe, Illiger's, and Yellow Collared Macaws are a few other Mini Macaw species but the Hahn's are the smallest.
Hahn's Macaws are considered Least Concern by the IUCN Red List, but populations are suffering from habitat loss and illegal trapping for the exotic pet trade.

What I'm up to Now
I've been adopted!
After spending 7 months in foster care with one of FOTA's Board Members I was adopted. My foster mom fell in love with me and knew she couldn't possibly give me up! I now live with 5 budgies, 3 conures, 1 lovebird and 2 foster siblings (an Orange Winged Amazon and a Moluccan Cockatoo).
